Enjoy your school reunion?

Posted by WonderWoman in : My life , trackback

My 20-year reunion is coming up - interstate (i.e. I am in contact with VERY few of my old classmates, generally speaking). We’re having a night-time do (partners invited) and a picnic (kids invited) the following day. I want to enjoy it.

Nooksters, please tell me:

(1) Would you bring your partner (or would your partner be bored)?

(2) What would you do or suggest (I am in contact with the organiser) to make it a fun night/day?

Tell me your experiences, please!

I went to my school reunion. An old school friend and I went together. We hadn’t caught up in years, so it was fun. We decided to leave our hubbies home, so that A/ they weren’t bored and B/ we could discuss old times, and not feel we were leaving them out. Had a great night. Everyone had plenty to talk about. A few funny stories were read out. We all had to right a paragraph on what we’d done over the last twenty years. That was very scary !!!
Have a wonderful time at yours.

I went to my 20 year reunion 3 years ago. ( also interstate) It was a very surreal experience! Most people I had not laid eyes on for the full 20 years and without exception they were all shorter than I remembered! That they were older I get - 20 years is a significant amount of time. Fatter I understand - I went to a girls school and most of them had had kids and that changes your body a lot. But SHORTER!!! What is the deal with that????
Overall I had a pleasant ( Pleasant is the exact word) time, they were all very nice women and it was nice to chat over old times, but they were all essentially strangers and there was not one amongst them with whom I have revived a friendship.
There was a sense of being sized up as well. Do I look older than she does? Have I worn better? Do I look successful enough? Strange sensation.
I am glad my partner did not come as he would have been horribly bored.
Our reunion was just a get together with drinks and snacks at our old school. Perhaps it may have been more interesting if there had been some sort of formal “getting to know you again” activities to get beyond the “So what are you doing now?” questions.
I hope you enjoy your reunion - Maybe with kids and partners present there will be a better mix of people and interests that will help people relax a little.
