Wow………what an adventure to climb the 1,000 steps in ferntree gully national park. They have treasure maps for the kids to use. Just ask the rangers. There are different walks to take, in different time frames. Wonderful Air, wonderful views, ambiance. If your kids dont come home and fall asleep on the couch…….well,,,,,, I’ll know you didn’t make it to the top. Best of all……..it costs nothing, but the memories are great.
For those rainy days. A few weeks before the school holidays I don’t throw out any food boxes, egg cartons, softdrink bottles etc: I have on hand glue fabric, scissors, paints textas and other bits and pieces. Cover your kitchen table with old newspapers and let the kids go to work, it keeps them amused for hours and they come back time and again to make something else. Keep the crusts from the loaf of bread and any crusts that are not eaten put them in a freezer bag and freeze. If you do this for a month you end up with alot of bread to take to the local lake and feed the ducks. If you need something done in the garden get your kids to get their friends and offer them say $5 each to do your garden they (the older ones under supervision) can mow the lawn, pull the weeds, clean up the front and back yard even clean the spouting and plant new plants. I did this last year and my 2 chilren got 4 friends each, it cost me $50 and $10 woth of potato cakes and chips from the fish shop. The kids loved it because there was so many of them that it didn’t take long and they got a free feed as well as cash.(Works out alot cheaper for me too than paying someone as i can’t do it myself).Going to the pictures can be expensive but if the kids go to a Village Cinema on Tuesday it is only $7.50. The kids have lunch before they go so there is no need for all the expense from the snack bar.We then go window shopping as the Cinema is at our local shopping centre, and I make notes on what the kids want for xmas.We make a game of it. Pretending to have alot of money, writing a list as we go of everything we would love to buy it’s alot of fun and gives you insight as to what your kids would like without them knowing your real agenda. Can’t think of any more at the moment but good luck
